Breastfeeding Bliss

You start out eagerly, wide-eyed
With a singsongy humming
Punctuated with pleasured sighs

Gradually, the activity quiets
Eyes close and all is still
Save a tiny jaw, nibbling rhythmically

Soft lips soon draw out a line
Sweet breath escaping gently
And the bedding embraces you

With a whispered kiss and a lingering touch
I slip away to leave you to sleep
And look back lovingly

-Elizabeth von Radics, "Nursing Clementine"
